Does this raise confusion and questions? Link yourself to a comprehensive, snappy information bank regarding our threadless piercing jewelry.

Even for many “old” users of piercings, this term may be foreign, and may even seem suspicious at first.

However, we can promise that this fastening mechanism, which has gained a lot of popularity in the world, is a savior for everyday life. No more crawling on the floor after dripping jewelry, heavy earring backs, or awkward threading in piercings.

Threadless piercing jewelry consists of two different parts:

1. Threadless jewelry tip

Kierteetön korukärki

2. Non-threaded base

Kierteetön kantaosa

Both of these are available in several different models. The most common base model that is used with jewelry tips is the labret model base. The name Labret comes from the flat design of one end of the sole.

The heel part of the Labret model is suitable for the following piercings:

– An earring

– Cartilage jewelry (nose jewelry, helix, forward helix, conch and tragus jewelry)

– Lip jewelry (Medusa-, labret- Ashley jewelry)

Other options are curved barbells  and straight barbells. You can read more about them by clicking on the links. These models are used, for example, in earrings, navel rings and nipple rings.

Perfect for earrings

For example, earrings, because it is one of the most used piercings. When you get a pair (2pcs) of labret models , you can use the same labrets again and again and only change the jewelry tops. You don’t need to order new base parts in the future when you want to change the appearance of your jewelry!

The recommendation for the entire labret base part for our earrings is 0.8x6mm. For other piercing sizes, you can find instructions for jewelry selection in the section.

Where does the name Push-pin piercing jewelry come from?

The jewelry tip has a small “pin” and a hollow tube at the base.

The jewelry is put into use by bending the “pin” of the jewelry tip using the base part as an aid. See the picture.

After that, the base part is installed behind the ear, e.g. in the ear hole. When the heel part is visible from the front, you take the bent jewelry tip in your other hand and insert the pin into the labret.

When installing, the jewelry will naturally rub against the tube of the stem. This gets the name push-pin jewelry, because the pin of the jewelry is pushed into the base. See instructions for setting up jewelry here.

But, there is no lock on the jewelry, and how does it stay closed?

The jewelry locks when the twisted “pin” of the jewelry tip gets stuck inside the base due to pressure. This is why it is important that the pin of the jewelry tip must be bent, because when it is straight it will fall off immediately.

The jewelry will not come off the stem part, i.e. it will open when you pull firmly, if the pin has been twisted enough, but remember not to twist it too much so that your jewelry breaks. (You will receive installation instructions with your order)

This “locking” mechanism is even more secure than internally threaded jewelry, because you don’t have to remember to tighten your jewelry every few days. It is enough to check from time to time that the tip of the jewelry is definitely at the bottom inside the heel part.

Therefore, even the valuable jewelry tips stay with you during everyday life and at the party, no matter what type of piercing your jewelry is!

Choose a suitable size non-threaded base part

Tips for choosing the right labret post

3mm and 4mm options are available for the width of the back part of the post. Here are some things to consider when choosing the right size:

  • For piercings that are healing, we recommend a 4mm back part.
  • Piercings inside the mouth, e.g. a lip jewelry, also require a 4mm back part, so that the back part does not sink into the soft tissue inside the mouth.
  • If you choose a large, more decorative (e.g. arch-shaped) tip part, the Labret heel part 4mm width also gives your jewelry additional support.
  • The side of the nose with a 3mm piercing does not collect body fluids as much and does not take up space in the nostril. It is also not visible from there on the smaller back and does not feel uncomfortable to use.
  • In the tragus piercing, the 3mm back part makes it easier to use earphones and doesn’t collect so much earwax.

Tips for choosing length and thickness

Please note that the size suggestions are indicative recommendations and you can get confirmation of the perfect size for you from the piercing shop.

For easier jewelry installation

Selection of insertion pin size

Choose your insertion pin according to the size of the jewelry you ordered. If your jewelry is 1.2mm in size, also choose 1.2mm as the thickness of the insertion pin. The threadless insertion pin is suitable for the installation of jewelry without threads. You can also carefully bend the insertion pin slightly at an angle, so you can get it better for narrow ear piercings, such as forward helix and tragus piercings. Keep the insertion pin for your other jewelry as well, because you can use it on all your jewelry with the same thickness and fastening mechanisms.

The insertion pin can also be used as a stretcher!

The insertion pin is also very suitable for stretching. The insertion pin is designed so that one end is very thin, so that you can easily find your piercing hole, and the other end of the insertion pin is the size of the desired thickness. For example, if your septum jewelry is currently 1.2 mm thick, you can order a 1.6 mm thick insertion pin and a 1.6 mm thick jewelry that you can easily put in place with the insertion pin. This way you can safely reach the desired size little by little.
